Why painting is different in Fargo
Paint here has to cope with a very wide temperature range. Long-term normals show January highs in the teens with lows below zero, and July highs in the low 80s. Siding swells and shrinks through that range every year, and paint that cannot flex cracks. The flat Red River Valley adds steady wind and strong sun on south and west walls.
The season is short. Exterior paint needs mild, dry days and nights, which in Fargo means about late May to mid September. The houses differ too: wood lap siding, stucco and plaster in the older core neighborhoods, hardboard, steel and aluminum on mid-century homes, and vinyl, steel and engineered wood in the newer subdivisions. Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint, and federal lead-safe rules apply to them.
How we work
It starts with a free estimate. We walk the job, measure, talk through colors and sheen, and send a written quote that lists the prep, the paint and the price. Before painting we cover floors and furniture, then patch, sand, caulk and prime. Two coats follow. Most rooms take one to two days and a full exterior usually takes three to five days, depending on weather. At the end we clean up and walk the finished work with you.
