The Fargo Painting Company paints homes and businesses in Fargo and the towns around it, on both sides of the Red River. We work in West Fargo, Horace, Harwood, Casselton, Mapleton, Kindred and Oxbow in North Dakota, and in Moorhead, Dilworth, Glyndon, Hawley and Barnesville in Minnesota. The work covers interior and exterior painting, cabinets, decks and fences, plus the repairs that go with them. We are licensed and insured, and every job starts with a free estimate and a written quote.
Houses here range from wood-frame homes with plaster walls in the core neighborhoods, to mid-century ramblers with hardboard, steel and aluminum siding, to newer homes with vinyl and engineered wood. The weather tests every one of them, with winter nights below zero, strong summer sun and steady wind off the open valley. Paint only lasts when the surface under it is clean, sound and primed. Outdoor work fits between late spring and early fall. Indoor work goes on all year.
A job runs in four steps. First we visit, look at the surfaces, measure and ask what you want. Then you get a quote in writing that lists the prep, the coats and the price. On the day, we cover floors and furniture, make the repairs and prime them, and apply the finish coats. At the end we clean up and walk through the work with you, room by room or wall by wall, and fix anything you point out before we call it done.

This was my first time trying out this company, and they made everything seamless. I called them to come over to trim up some molding in my house and then paint the baseboards. The owner came he gave me a really fair quote, promised to show up right on time, and did a great job at what he quoted.
By far the best painting team I have ever came across. Great company!

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Fargo?
By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 and an average 2,000 square foot exterior costs $3,000 to $10,000. Those are not our quotes. Size, prep and paint set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.
When can a house exterior be painted in Fargo?
From about late May to mid September. Exterior paint has to stay above the minimum temperature on its label while it dries, and nights here are too cold for that through much of spring and fall. We paint interiors all year.
Do I need a permit to paint my house in Fargo?
No. The City of Fargo Inspections department does not require a permit for painting. Siding, sheetrock and deck projects do need one, and an HOA may have its own rules on exterior colors.
Do painters need a licence in North Dakota?
Yes, for any job over $4,000. The Secretary of State licenses contractors, and you can look one up on its FirstStop contractor search. The Fargo Painting Company is licensed and insured.
My house was built before 1978. Does lead paint matter?
Yes. Paid painters who disturb old paint in pre-1978 homes must follow the federal EPA lead-safe rule, which EPA runs directly in North Dakota. Ask any painter to show the firm's EPA certificate first.
How long does a paint job take?
Most rooms take one to two days. A full exterior usually takes three to five days, depending on the size of the house and the weather.
